Modern School When Modern School was started in Daryaganj in 1920, New Delhi, intellectual stimulation, athletic excellence, and cultural participation were its primary aims. The words of Rabindranath Tagore are embodied in the philosophy of the founding fathers of Modern School. FACTS
  • The credo of Modern School "Naimatma Balheenien Labhya" from Sanskrit literally means, "Perfection can only be achieved by the strong." The question is not survival of the fittest, or survival at the cost of others. It is the path of confidence, self-respect, and humility. The over 80 years old history of the school is one of unequalled success and achievement in India.

  • In 1995, Modern School completed 75 glorious years and celebrated its platinum Jubilee.

  • The School is located 2 kms from New Delhi Railway Station; 5 kms from the Delhi junction and 6 kms from Inter State Bus Terminal.

Accreditation
The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, for the class X All India Secondary School Examination. For class XII, the school incorporates the Senior School Certificate Examination under the 10+2 Pattern.

  • Co-curricular and Cultural Activities and Physical education form an integral part of the education program and the school provides ample opportunities for Co-curricular and Cultural Activities that are essential to the development of the personality of the students. The House system in the school plays an important role in the furtherance of the cultural and co-curricular activities in the school.

  • Every student is allotted a particular house as soon as he/she is admitted to the school. The school has 15 houses and each house is further divided into the senior house and the junior house under the charge of separate house-masters. In the inter-house activities and competitions, the students get ample opportunities of taking part in Debate, Declamation and such other activities that draw out the manifold capabilities of the students.

  • Sports Hockey, cricket, athletics, football, basketball, swimming, tennis, table-tennis and gymnastics are the main school games. Facilities, also exist for volley ball, cross country, badminton and squash.

  • Extracurricular Activities Stamp collecting, dramatics, carpentry, tailoring, embroidery, soft toy making, electronics, paper work, gardening, typing, cookery, journalism, music, dance, batik, tie & dye, painting and leather work are some of the activities. Tours and treks are compulsory for all students of class VI and above.

  • Bits 'n' Bytes The Modern School Official Computer Club, responsible for organising an inter-school computer symposium each year and for creating the website. The Computer club was founded in 1987 to enhance the popularity and usage of computers in the educational field. The club has various activities - organising in-house quiz, preparing and sending teams to Computer Symposia of various institutions, and organising Access, the club's annual inter-school symposium. The club also has a junior branch, called Nibbles.

  • The Interact Club Interact Club or The International Action Club was started in the school in the year 1983 under the leadership of Raksha Bhandari. It was inaugurated by the Vice president of India, Hidayatullah. Affiliated to the Rotary International District 3010, the club has done a lot of social work, starting from donations to orphanages, recycling waste paper, blood donation camps etc. The club helps develop initiative and leadership skills of young children. Recently the club was awarded a certificate of recognition for community service by the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dixit.

    Also, Interact has been committed to help blind students in their efforts towards receiving education. Every year the club members volunteer to write the exams at school and college level, for the blind students. There is also a recycling plant in the school as a part of this club. The blood donation camp, an annual feature of the school curriculum, is organised every year by the Interact Club.

  • Spic Macay The SPIC MACAY- Society is for promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst youth. A non profit, voluntary, NGO dedicated to promote awareness of Indian Culture in the youth has become an integral part of Modern School. Modern School has hosted a large number of Lec-Dems , Baithaks, workshops , fests and camps and helped Spic Macay in its aim of popularising Indian culture amongst youth. Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Sonal Mansingh, Sitara Devi, The Vidali Brothers, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Birju Mahahraj and Uday Bhalwalkar are amongst the eminent artists who have performed in School, over the years.

    To celebrate 20 years of SPIC MACAY , the 5th Annual School convention VIRASAT was held at Modern School on the 3rd and 4th of May 1997. The school has also organised a number of workshops including a theatre workshop by B V Karanth which culminated in the putting up of Tagore's play "Tashon Ka Desh" or Land of Cards.

  • 'Prakriti' The Nature Club Founded by Virmani in 1995 and started out with just a handful of students, the club is dedicated to spread an awareness concerning the environment. Today under our teacher's able guidance, the club has increased in strength and its activities are far reaching. Its motto 'Think Globally, Act Locally', has become an anthem of sorts for its members.

    'Prakriti' tries to inculcate in its members the sensitivity to feel from within for Nature. It teaches students to protect and preserve and not destroy. Some of its achievements include planting nearly 200 trees all around Modern School and clearning up the area behind the Platinum Jubilee Block. The club had campaigned extensively against the use of crackers during Diwali and had received an overwhelming response. It had also participated in the Panchvati Movement, which aimed at preserving nature.

  • The Debating Society Founded almost a decade ago by Kona Roy, the Debating Society has in consecutive succession produced confident and capable debaters, constantly successful at competitions. The school also received trophy for the Best Debating School.

  • The Sandesh The Sandesh is a kaleidoscopic picture of the school. The Sandesh is a bimonthly magazine containing a number of regular features pertaining to the school like 'Modern Does It', 'Modern Collage', and 'Ragamuffins'.
